A Start-up’s First Photoshoot

Client: Recess

Project: On-going editorial features of creative people for website re-launch

Deliverables: 20 Shots per day shot on film

Recess had an open call for a producer comfortable with larger productions and experience with celebrities. They were looking to relaunch their website with an on-going editorial series featuring intimate portraits of creative people in their “space of recess”. We immediately set up a call to get more information of their needs for this project, including budget, timeline, usage, and deliverables. In order to streamline the amount of content and work around the schedules of talent, I was able to create a schedule allowing for 2 different talent shot in different locations per shoot day. This aided in saving the client money, focused our creative direction, and optimized the short windows we had with each talent. This also made the shoot repeatable and gave the client a template for fair rates & typical vendor costs.

When hiring the creative team, I took lead from the client’s wish-list of photographers, and their request that everything be shot on film. I negotiated rates with photographer’s agents and aided in contract wording for the client.

The client had a pre-approved list of artists, and it was our job to scout locations and schedule artists that were located in close proximity to each other to reduce the amount of travel time between sets. The photographer was give 4 hours from arrival to a strict out for each artist with an hour between for travel/lunch. This insured that we did not incur any overtime hours with the crew as the client’s budget was very strict.
