Staying Local

bringing authenticity to a project

Client: Genius3D Mammography

Project: Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign
Photographer/Director: Chelsea Odufu

Deliverables: 36 Still Images & Several Cuts of a 3 Min Video with Voice Over & Original Music

I was approached by a Rochester agency to aid in a production in NYC. The concept was to feature real black and Hispanic women speaking on their experiences with their annual mammograms and breast cancer. In order to feature each woman, I sought out to find locations and scenarios that were as unique as the person. From the beginning, due to budget restraints it was clear that we would need schedule multiple talent per day. In order to do this and still be able to move to unique locations, I decided to set a homebase in a local café in my own neighborhood of BedStuy. The neighborhood is full of incredible black female-owned businesses that I wanted to feature as locations.

We seamlessly transitioned from motion to stills with the photographer also acting as the DP. Our tech set up allowed clients and styling teams to view the set from afar as to allow the real people feel comfortable in a smaller set with just the Director when speaking about sensitive subjects.
